Today, Wednesday, 9/9/2026 , at 2:30pm in the City Council Chambers, there will be a Civil Service agenda where the City is proposing to amend Rule VIII 1.2 and 1.3 eliminating bonus annual leave days awarded based on tenure. They are trying to take away bonus days and limit the carry over and eventual payouts.
Some of the issues only affect those who will be hired after 12/31/2026, but some affect everyone.

I am going to attend and wanted to make sure everyone knew in case you wanted to attend as well.
- Eliminates bonus annual leave days for current employees and new hires (currently 3 annual leave days per year for 5-9 years of service, 6 annual leave days for 6-14 years of service, 9 annual leave days for 15-19 years of service, and 12 annual leave days for 20+ years of service). Excludes Fire who can continue to earn up to 30 annual leave days per year.
- Eliminates bonus sick leave days for current employees and new hires (currently 2 sick leave days per year for 6-15 years of service, 7 sick leave days for 16+ years of service).
- Caps annual leave carry over at 30 days for new hires (currently 45 days)
- Caps sick leave carry over at 200 days for new hires (currently unlimited)
- Caps payout for sick leave at 20% for new hires (currently 20% for first 100 days, 25% for second 100 days, 33% for third hundred days, 50% for fourth 100 days, and 100% for all days in excess of 400).
