The Police Association of New Orleans with the rest of America in mourning the terrible loss of life and for those injured in New Orleans early on New Year's Day. Fortunately, NOPD police officers acted quickly to permanently end the terrorist's attempt to cause further bloodshed. We thank and support those officers, as well as all the law enforcement officers who assisted in ending this tragic event.
While many questions have been raised regarding various aspects of this incident, PANO must caution against the knee-jerk reactions of some who are immediately calling for the resignation or termination of Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick. The tragic events of New Year's Day rightly stirs tremendous passion and exacerbates the need for explanation in us all.
But fairness dictates that all the details and information be processed and confirmed before conclusions are drawn and responsibilities are assigned. Due diligence will deliver all the facts and information needed to determine our best path forward.
Until then, please join PANO in reserving judgment and supporting making prevention the priority at this moment.
